SD Highway 34 Chip Seal from SD Highway 50 to Mac’s Corner, including Ft.Thompson
HURON, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will be chip sealing a 17.6 mile section of SD Hwy 34 from SD Hwy 50 through Ft.Thompson and north to Mac’s Corner (Junction of SD Hwy 47/SD Hwy 34). The work will include SD Hwy 47 and SD Hwy 249 in Ft.Thompson as well. The chip seal is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 10, 2009 and be completed by Saturday, August 15, weather permitting.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane. A short delay can be expected while traveling through the work area. Loose gravel will be present for a period of 36 to 72 hours after each day’s chip seal application. Traffic should travel at 40 MPH during this time frame. The permanent pavement marking is scheduled to be applied within 14 days of completion of the chip seal.
The prime contractor for the project is Asphalt Paving and Materials Co. from Huron, SD.
