Names Released in Sanborn County Fatal Crash
What: Two-vehicle crash
Where: 241st St. and 406th Ave., two miles east of Letcher, S.D.
When: 9:03 p.m., Wed., May 31, 2023
Driver No. 1: Jason Mathew Price, 46, Letcher, S.D., fatal injuries
Vehicle No. 1: 2019 Hyundai Sonata Base
Driver No. 2: Carson Thomas Fahey, 19, Mitchell, S.D., serious non-life-threatening injuries
Vehicle No. 2: 2005 Peterbilt semi-truck
Letcher, S.D.: A Letcher, S.D. man has been identified as the person who died last Wednesday evening in a two-vehicle crash east of Letcher, S.D.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2019 Hyundai Sonata was driving westbound on 241st St. A 2005 Peterbilt semi-truck pulling a flatbed trailer was driving eastbound on 241st St. The Sonata crossed the center line and collided with the semi-truck.
The driver of the Hyundai Sonata, 46-year-old Jason Mathew Price of Letcher, S.D., died at the scene of the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The 19-year-old driver of the semi-truck, Carson Thomas Fahey of Mitchell, S.D., sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
