Gov. Noem Attends National Guard Fire Fighting Deployment Ceremony

Signs Fire Safety Bills into Law

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Yesterday, Governor Noem attended the National Guard 216 Fire Fighting Detachment Deployment Ceremony at the Range Road Armory in Rapid City. The unit is deploying to Romania. You can find photos from the event here.

“As Governor, there is no duty I take more seriously than deploying our National Guard into the field,” Governor Noem said. “Romania is an important strategic ally as a member of NATO. We work with these allies to preserve Freedom in the north Atlantic – both in Europe and North America. Your deployment there will strengthen those strategic ties and bolster our alliance in pursuit of Freedom.”

Governor Noem also signed the following 3 bills relating to firefighters and fire safety into law. She signed these bills with members of the South Dakota Wildland Fire, and you can find photos of the bill signing here. The three fire safety bills include:

  • HB 1023 – Makes an appropriation for the construction of a maintenance shop for the Wildland Fire Suppression Division in Rapid City;
  • HB 1024 – Makes an appropriation for the construction of a maintenance shop for the Wildland Fire Suppression Division in Hot Springs; and,
  • HB 1127 - Makes an appropriation to support volunteer fire departments.

Governor Noem has signed 148 bills into law and vetoed four this legislative session.
