              Clark County Fatal Crash

 

What: Two-vehicle fatal crash

When: Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, 5:33 p.m.

Where: SD Highway 20 and SD Highway 25, five miles east of Bradley, SD

 

Driver 1: Theodore A. Warkenthien, 57, Clark, SD, minor injuries

Passenger 1: Kim L. Warkenthien, 53, Clark, SD, serious non-life threatening injuries

Vehicle 1: 2013 Volkswagen SUV

 

Driver 2: Floyd August Maas, 89, Crocker, SD, fatal

Vehicle 2: 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis

 

BRADLEY, S.D. – A Crocker, S.D., man died in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of S.D. Highway 20 and S.D. Highway 25 on Thursday, Sept. 5.

 

Floyd August Maas, 89, was westbound on Highway 20 driving a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis. At the intersection with Highway 25, Maas failed to obey the stop sign, and his vehicle was struck by a northbound 2013 Volkswagen SUV driven by Theodore A. Warkenthien, 57, of Clark, S.D. Both vehicles entered the northwest ditch.

 

Maas, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to a Watertown hospital, where he died of injuries received in the crash.

 

Warkenthien received minor injuries. A passenger, Kim L. Warkenthien, 53, of Clark, received serious injuries. Both were taken to a Watertown hospital. Both were wearing seatbelts.

 

No further information is immediately available.

 

The South Dakota Highway Patrol investigated. Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Day County Sheriff’s Office, Bradley Fire Department, Clark Fire Department, Clark County Ambulance and Watertown Fire Department Ambulance assisted.
