Watertown Couple Claims Dakota Cash Jackpot

(Pierre) – "This is just about the right amount," Dunn said. "I don’t know what I’d do with millions. This will set us up for down the road a ways."

Dunn works evenings at the Redlin Art Center and nights at Lake Area Technical Institute. He said his wife Liz called him at work Thursday when she heard the winning ticket was sold in Watertown.

He checked the winning numbers in the newspaper at work, but the ticket was still tucked in the visor of his truck. "I realized I had a couple of the numbers," Dunn said. "Finally, I couldn’t stand it, so I went out to the truck and got the ticket. I thought ‘Holy mackerel. This could be good.’"

The numbers on the ticket matched those in the newspaper. "I’m sure there’s quite the sight on the security camera tape," Dunn said. "I hollered and jumped."

The Dunns drove this morning to the Sioux Falls Lottery office to claim the prize, but not before rechecking the ticket. "I bet we looked at that ticket one hundred times." Richard said.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Cowboy Country Store on 9th Avenue in Watertown. The store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning "quick pick" ticket.

Dakota Cash is played only in South Dakota. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1:324,632. The jackpot for Saturday night is $20,000.
