Attorney General Marty Jackley Appoints

Chad Mosteller as New DCI Director

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announces the appointment of Chad Mosteller to serve as the new director of the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), replacing Dan Satterlee who has been appointed as U.S. Marshal for South Dakota.

“Chad continues the outstanding DCI leadership started by Dan,” said Attorney General Jackley. “Chad has the respect of the DCI employees as well as other state, local, and federal partners.”

Mosteller worked as a college intern at DCI in the late 1990s and has been with DCI full-time since August 2002 serving in positions as a special agent, supervisory special agent, Administrator of Law Enforcement Training, and the DCI Assistant Director for Administrative Operations. He has been the DCI Assistant Director of Field Operations since Attorney General Jackley returned to the Attorney General’s Office in January of 2023.

Former Attorney General Mark Vargo, after taking office in 2022, appointed Mosteller as interim DCI Director in July 2022. Mosteller served in that position until newly elected Attorney General Jackley appointed Satterlee as director in 2023.

President Trump last week officially appointed Satterlee as South Dakota’s new U.S. Marshal after Satterlee was confirmed by the U.S. Senate. His official swearing-in date has not yet been scheduled.

Mosteller will be sworn by South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice Steve R. Jensen at 11:30 CDT Friday, June 5, in the State Supreme Court Courtroom at the State Capitol in Pierre.
