Name Released In Lawrence County Fatal Crash
What: One-vehicle crash
Where: Gobbler Road, three miles west of Spearfish
When: 9:15 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2017
Driver: Alan Campbell, 43, Spearfish, S.D., Fatal Injuries
Vehicle: 2000 Conventional 5800 Dump Truck
SPEARFISH, S.D. – A Spearfish man has been identified as the person who died Monday morning in a one-vehicle crash three miles west of Spearfish.
Alan Campbell, 43, was driving a 2000 Conventional 5800 dump truck northbound on Gobbler Road. The vehicle, which was hauling top soil, was traveling downhill when the driver failed to negotiate a right hand turn. The vehicle went off the roadway to the left, went over a berm, collided with several trees and eventually rolled.
Campbell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the dump truck. He later died as a result of his injuries. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Spearfish Ambulance also was on scene.
The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
