State Prison Inmate Dies

Pierre, S.D. – An inmate at the South Dakota State Penitentiary has died after committing suicide.

Todd Green, age 42, was found hanging in his cell overnight. Prison staff attempted to revive Green before he was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital by ambulance. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Green was serving consecutive 15-year sentences for sexual contact with a child under the age of 16 and for kidnapping. He was also serving concurrent sentences for 1^st degree burglary, aggravated assault and violation of a protection order. All of the sentences emanated from Lincoln County.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the death. An autopsy will be conducted.
