Saturday, Oct. 1, Scotland, 9:30 a.m. CDT - Lt. Gov. Matt Michels will help Pietz’s Kuchen Kitchen & Specialties celebrate its new production facility and retail space with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The ceremony will be held at 800 4th Street in Scotland. The public and the media are encouraged to attend. Roger and Lori Pietz opened the Kuchen Kitchen in 2008. Monday, Oct. 3, Hill City, 7 p.m. MDT - The South Dakota Board of Regents will hold a Town Meeting on South Dakota public higher education in Board Room 202 of Hill City High School, located at 488 Main Street in Hill City. Monday, Oct. 3, Watertown, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. CDT - The Department of Labor and Regulation will be holding the eleventh annual Career Expo for high school students at the Civic Arena.  The event will be held in conjunction with Post-high Planning Day for juniors and seniors.  Students from all over northeastern South Dakota will attend, visiting with local businesses about occupations in demand and the training needed to produce their product or perform their service.  Then, students will visit with post-secondary schools that offer training in those areas. Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 4-5, Pierre – DENR staff will host two days of Visible Emission Evaluation Certification in Pierre. The “Fall Smoke School” classroom session will be held at the Matthew Training Center in the Foss Building, 523 East Capitol Avenue. The field certification will be conducted at the National Guard Armory, 3400 East Highway 34. Certification is open to those from industry, municipalities, consultants, or anyone who would like to be certified to evaluate visible emissions (smoke/dust) to ensure emissions are in compliance with state and federal air quality standards. Wednesday, Oct. 5, Pierre, 10 a.m. CDT - DENR’s Water Management Board will meet at the Floyd Matthew Training Center in the Joe Foss Building, 523 East Capitol Avenue, in Pierre. The agenda includes an interveners’ motion for rehearing and reconsideration of a water permit application for Hanson County Dairy. The board is also scheduled to consider findings of fact, conclusions of law and final decisions in the matter of repeal of water permit applications from LongView Farms and Hanson County Dairy.
