PIERRE, S.D. – Builders Choice, one of Vermillion’s newest employers, celebrated its official opening today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new 45,000 square foot facility in Vermillion.
Builders Choice, an Alaska-based modular building manufacturer, has already hired over 30 people at its Vermillion operation and expects to add about 30 more employees within the next year.
“I have been very pleased with the skill level and work ethic of the Vermillion labor pool,” said Mark Larson, President, Builders Choice. “TheSouth Dakotafacility is already proving to be a good addition for our company, and we look forward to continued growth here.”
The oil boom inNorth Dakotaopened up a new market for Builders Choice products and caused the company to start looking at new facility options inSouth Dakota.
“We obviously wanted to be physically closer to the expanded market, and Vermillion was able to put us within a desired proximity and offer us a strong workforce. This community is a great fit for us,” said Larson.
South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard said the relationship betweenSouth Dakotaand Builders Choice is mutually beneficial.
“I’m pleased the state is able, with Vermillion, to meet the needs of the company and help poise it for growth,” the Governor said. “And from aSouth Dakotaperspective, it’s encouraging to find opportunities that allow job growth in our state by leveraging positive economic activity inNorth Dakota.”

Builders Choice builds modular solutions for both residential and commercial purposes. At the Vermillion facility, the company manufactures modular units for worksite housing, hotel and apartments, and office and administrative facilities. The company was established in 1996 and is headquartered at Anchorage,Alaska.
