IMSD to Expand Huron Operation
Pierre - Business is good at Industrial Manufacturing of South Dakota (IMSD) of Huron. In fact, the company is expanding its Huron operation, Chris Braendlin, commissioner, Governor’s Office of Economic Development, announced today, Oct. 18.
"This company has been in business in Huron for about three years and it simply outgrew its existing facility," Braendlin said. "The move into a bigger facility will allow the company to create approximately 50 jobs in the next three years," he added.
The company, a metal fabrication job shop, will expand its market to include powder coat painting capabilities. The new powder coating equipment will make the company more competitive, Braendlin said.
Marshall said the company will move into the Riverside Manufacturing Building in the Huron Industrial Park. "This is just a great opportunity for us, and the city of Huron. We have been committed to keeping jobs in Huron from day one, and will continue to do so," said Jack Marshall, president of sales and finance.
"The scariest part," Marshall said, "is that it is happening at this time of so much uncertainty. We are confident in the United States. We know the economy is at its low point and will back up to its previous levels shortly," he added.
Marshall said the expansion was really a team effort. "We really want to thank all involved. Kelley Weaver with SBDC, Liz Larkin, Tina VanCamp with the GOED, Shawn Lyons, Barry Cranston with GHDC, Tom Gietzen with Marquette Bank. This could not have happened without cooperation and hard work from all of them," he said.
Shawn Lyons, executive director, Greater Huron Development Corporation, is pleased with the news of IMSD’s expansion. "In light of the current economy, particularly the downsizing in the manufacturing sector, this is extremely positive news for our community," he said.
