Price Named Highway Patrol Superintendent
PIERRE, S.D. – Craig Price of Pierre has been named Superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Price, a former trooper with the Highway Patrol, has served with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation for the past 12 years. Currently, he is Assistant Director in charge of Administrative Services for DCI. While he was with the Highway Patrol in the late 1990s, he was stationed in Tyndall.
Price’s selection came after a recruitment search that included input from many public safety stakeholders, according to Trevor Jones, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
“There was broad support for Craig to assume leadership of the Highway Patrol,’’ Jones said. “His strategic vision and leadership will only build on the already solid foundation of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.’’
Price, 37, replaces Col. Dan Mosteller, who retired in June of 2010. Assistant Superintendent Maj. Randy Hartley, who has been acting superintendent, will return to his previous position.
Price is married with two children. He will begin his new position in the near future, Jones said.
