PIERRE, S.D. – SmithCo Manufacturing, a manufacturer of side dump trailers, announced today that it will be relocating its corporate headquarters from Le Mars, I.A. to Elk Point, S.D. The move will create six jobs in Elk Point, with the potential of additional new jobs in the next two to three years.
“SmithCo Manufacturing is at the leading edge of trailer technology,” Gov. Dennis Daugaard said. “I am confident the transition to Elk Point will be a positive move for the company and will result in future economic growth for the community, state and SmithCo.”
“Our company has a strong working relationship with Le Mars and the State of Iowa, and has every intention of maintaining the bulk of our manufacturing in the state where SmithCo started, but from a corporate office perspective, South Dakota was our best option,” Greg Smith, President, SmithCo said. “Our new corporate headquarters will have a dual purpose, also serving as a new sales outpost for SmithCo in South Dakota. This is something our customers wanted and we’re responding to them.”
The company is wrapping up the build out of their new space. The South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development is providing low interest loan assistance for the build out costs of the new corporate headquarter space.
