Gov. Rhoden Announces Neal Nachtigall as BIT Commissioner

 

PIERRE, S.D. – Today, Governor Larry Rhoden announced that Neal Nachtigall will serve as the new Bureau of Information and Technology (BIT) Commissioner, effective June 5.

 

“Neal is a humble leader who has driven positive change and delivered strong IT solutions throughout his entire career,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “His calm confidence and diverse experience in both the public and private sector will be a strong asset to both BIT and my Cabinet. I have no doubt he will play a key role in keeping our state strong, safe, and free.”

 

Neal Nachtigall is preceded by Commissioner Mark Wixon, who has led technology efforts for the State of South Dakota for the past two years. Commissioner Wixon has announced his retirement, effective June 5.

 

Nachtigall has over 25 years of IT experience, leading enterprise strategy, secure practices, modernization, and crossfunctional digital transformation. Throughout his career, Nachtigall has served in various leadership roles at GE Healthcare, Sandford Health, and SONIFI Solutions. He currently serves as the Director of Agency Application Support with BIT, where he has played a pivotal role in several key initiatives. Nachtigall holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from Colorado Technical Institute and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from DeVry Institute of Technology.
