District 18 Lawmakers Host Board of Regents at Yankton

YANKTON, S.D. – A town meeting on South Dakota public higher education is being hosted Wednesday, Sept. 12, on the Avera Sacred Heart campus in Yankton by District 18 lawmakers.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the new Professional Office Pavilion on the Avera Sacred Heart campus (conference room #3 on Level 1), located at 409 Summit in Yankton. Representatives of the South Dakota Board of Regents, its staff, and public university presidents will be on hand to visit with area residents. The public is invited to attend.

“In today’s world, businesses develop where there is a highly-educated and talented workforce,” said Regents President Harvey C. Jewett. “To be competitive in a global economy, South Dakota’s higher education system must respond to this ever-changing work environment. Through the continual re-evaluation of what we deliver at the public universities, and by developing new programs to meet new needs, the regents are able to quickly respond to these challenges.”

Sen. Jean Hunhoff, Rep. Charlii Gilson, and Rep. Garry Moore, who extended the invitation to the regents to meet in Yankton, said the ideas exchanged at this meeting will help South Dakota’s public higher education system better plan for the future.
