National Bake and Take Day
(Pierre, SD)---The South Dakota Wheat Commission, in collaboration with the Wheat Foods Council and ACH Food, is launching a nationwide promotion to encourage participation in the 37th annual Bake and Take Day - March 25, 2006. On that Saturday, people are encouraged to bake a product made from wheat and take it to a neighbor, friend or relative.
“We are excited about joining forces with the Wheat Food Council and ACH Foods to extend the Bake and Take tradition to a broader audience through the national promotion,” says Mary Ellen Wagner, director of communications for the SD Wheat Commission. “We have a tradition in South Dakota of heart warming acts of kindness to commemorate the day and are pleased that others are encouraged to have the experience as well.”
Highlighting the national promotion is a guest appearance by Marcia Scheiderman, president of the Wheat Foods Council on Flavors of America, a national public TV series on CN8 Mid-Atlantic,with Chef Jim Coleman. On the program, Scheiderman will teach young Girl Scouts to bake items to take to shut-ins. In addition to her appearance on Flavors of America, Scheiderman will promote Bake and Take Day in an interview for Chef Jim’s Knight Ridder column and also on his NPR Show – A Chef’s Table.
“This year we are also altering our state Bake and Take Contest,” says Wagner. “Participants who write in to tell about their Bake and Take Day activities will be entered into a random drawingfor $50 cash.
