Wheel Jam 2004 –Thousands Flock to State Fairgrounds!!
(Huron, SD)- Thousands of wheel enthusiasts gathered on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds for Wheel Jam 2004. “We never predicted this kind of response for this first ever event,” said Susan Hayward, Manager, South Dakota State Fair. “The numbers tell us that we have a good thing going and we plan on building on it for next year.”
Wheel Jam consisted of a judged bike, semi-truck and classic car show, poker run, dance, flee market, swap meet and parade. In addition, a barbecue beef and pork competition was held on Sunday. “We had something for everyone which helped make this a success. The crowds of enthusiasts who took part in this event Saturday and Sunday were having a great time,” said Hayward. “We plan to make this an annual event and we are just thrilled with the response.”
The Wheel Jam event is the first in a series of events being scheduled on the fairgrounds throughout the year through the efforts of a task force led by Huron Mayor Mary Pearson and Hayward. “We have a great facility here that can better be utilized 12 months a year – not just during the fair,” added Hayward. “Our goal is to plan events that will bring people to the fairgrounds. We are off to an awesome start!”
