State Fair and Sherwin Linton Search for South Dakota Talent
HURON, S.D. – The South Dakota State Fair and entertainer Sherwin Linton are searching for South Dakota entertainers to perform at the 125th South Dakota State Fair.
Performers of every genre, both professional and non-professional, are invited to submit materials including a photo, CD or DVD for consideration for the 2010 South Dakota State Fair. Performers will be featured as a part of the Sherwin Linton Show on the Centennial Stage.
“The State Fair is all about South Dakota,” said State Fair Manager Jerome Hertel. “We want to give home-state talent an opportunity to be a part of the fair’s popular entertainment program.”
Linton has been a perennial favorite at the fair since 1973 when he first performed at the Grandstand and on the Freedom Stage. Linton, his wife, Pam, and “The Cotton Kings” have made the Centennial Stage their home on the fairgrounds since the late 1980s, doing three daily shows.
As part of his show, Linton welcomes South Dakota performers as guests. Linton’s alumni of guests is impressive, including Watertown’s country singer Greg Hanson, “Yodelin Cowgirls” Teresa Endres and Kristi Goldade, Sioux Falls favorite Donnie Miller and his band, World Champion Whistler Carole Skinner of Miller, and Hailey Steele and Mallorie Haley, who are now among Nashville’s budding stars. Haley was highly touted recently for her appearance on “American Idol.” Many people even remember when a teenage Cheryl Ladd sang with Linton in the 1960s at the “The Plains” in Huron.
This past February, Sherwin Linton received the coveted FAME (Families Advocating Moral Entertainment) Entertainer of the Year Award for the third consecutive year.
