Double Fatal
 
What: Two sisters fatally injured in two vehicle crash near Brookings
 
When: Approximately 7:59 a.m.
            Monday, May 22nd, 2006
 
Where: Rural Brookings County, southeast of Brookings at the intersection of Highway 324 & 473rd Avenue
 
Who: Fatalities:    Driver of 1999 Pontiac: Ashley Loban, age 17, of rural Brookings
                                Passenger of 1999 Pontiac: Amanda Loban, age 10, of rural Brookings
 
2nd Vehicle Driver, of 1992 Ford Pick-up: Jesse S. Jameson, age 28, of Mankato, MN is currently hospitalized at a Sioux Falls Hospital.
 
Passenger in the 1992 Ford Pick-up: Weston J. Mahon, age 20, of Slayton, MN. He was
treated and released from the Brookings Hospital.
 
Passenger in the 1992 Ford Pick-up:   Jeremiah O. Sampson, age 25, of Good Thunder, MN is currently hospitalized at the Brookings Hospital.
 
Seatbelt used: No, (Neither driver of either vehicle, nor their passengers where wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
 
Alcohol involved: No
 
Investigation status: The two vehicle crash remains under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
 
Description: Ashley Loban, age 17, and her sister Amanda, age 10, of rural Brookings were traveling north on 473 Avenue in a 1999 Pontiac. A 1992 Ford pick-up pulling a trailer driven by Jesse Jameson, age 28, of Slayton, MN was westbound on SD. 324. Both vehicles collided in the intersection and went in to the ditch. The Jameson vehicle and trailer rolled after it left the roadway. Ashley Loban and her sister Amanda died at the scene as a result of their injuries. Jameson and his two passengers where transported to a Brookings Hospital.
 
Witnesses indicate that the Loban vehicle did not stop for a stop sign. Neither driver nor their passengers where wearing seat belts at the time of crash. The crash remains under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
