Highway Patrol Manhunt
Pierre, SD-An intense air and ground search is underway in the Mobridge area for an Eagle Butte man wanted on federal warrants and in connection with the assault of a law enforcement officer.
The Highway Patrol is looking for Sydney Garreau, 28. He is 6’1” and weighs 195 pounds. He has a dark complexion, brown eyes and a shaved head.
Garreau has a violent history and is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information concerning Garreau should call 911.
Law enforcement has made contact with all the homes within the search area.
The search follows a traffic stop that happened near Mobridge around 11p.m. last night. A Highway Patrol trooper was arresting Jeremy DeCoteau, 26, from Eagle Butte for a parole violation out of North Dakota. DeCoteau had two other people in the vehicle with him. There was a struggle during the arrest process and DeCoteau and Garreau fled on foot. DeCoteau has been located by law enforcement and is currently in the Walworth County Jail. The other occupant of the car was located and faces no charges.
The trooper involved in the stop received minor injuries and will make a full recovery.
The Campbell, Potter, Dewey and Walworth County Sheriff’s Offices are assisting with the search. The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department and the Mobridge Police Department are also providing assistance.
