Fatal Crash Near Hot Springs
When: 9:20 p.m., August 24, 2009
Where: Fall River County, 1 ¾ miles south of Hot Springs, SD on SD 71
Who: Driver: Clinton H. Phelps, Age 28, Hot Springs, SD (non-life threatening injuries)
Passenger: Faralynn Phelps, Age 6, Hot Springs, SD (deceased)
Passenger: Adrian Phelps, Age 6, Hot Springs, SD (life threatening injuries)
Vehicle: 2005 Dodge Neon
Alcohol involved: Yes
Investigation status: Active
Description:
A 2005 Dodge Neon, driven by Clinton Phelps, was south bound on SD 71 when he lost control. The vehicle rolled and came to a rest on its roof in the east ditch. Phelps’ children, both age 6, were ejected during the rollover. Faralynn Phelps sustained fatal injuries, and Adrian Phelps sustained life threatening injuries. Preliminary indications are the two children were not properly restrained in the vehicle. Clinton Phelps was wearing a seat belt and received non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol was a factor in the crash. Charges have not yet been filed. The Fall River County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
