Axdahl to Head Highway Safety Office
Pierre, S.D.– Lee Axdahl has been appointed Director of the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety, effective immediately.
Col. Dan Mosteller, Superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol, announced the appointment Tuesday. Axdahl will replace James (JC) Carpenter, recently appointed Director of the state Office of Homeland Security. Both offices are within the state Department of Public Safety.
Axdahl, a Minnesota native, has been South Dakota 911 Coordinator since December of 2008. Before that he was statistical program manager for the state Office of Accident Records. That office tracks reportable vehicle crashes in South Dakota and keeps statistics on causes and other details of each crash.
“Lee Axdahl has both highway safety and general public safety experience through his work in Accident Records and with the 911 Board,’’ Mosteller said. “He will bring that knowledge to his new position, along with a strong desire to continue the programs that are making South Dakota roads safer for our citizens.’’
