Missouri River Flood Photos Available on Public Safety Site, Courtesy of Civil Air Patrol
PIERRE, S.D. - Officials in the State Emergency Operations Center have created a link on the South Dakota Disaster Recovery website to offer citizens access to aerial photographs of flooding along the Missouri River.
The photographs are selected from those taken during Civil Air Patrol flights. From time to time, additional photos will be added to the site as the flooding response continues. The South Dakota Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, weather permitting, will fly over the river twice each day from north of Pierre to Dakota Dunes.
The aerial Photos are available on: http://www.disasterrecovery.sd.gov/flood_info.aspx and may be used or printed with credit to the South Dakota Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.
The state wing of the Civil Air Patrol has about 350 volunteer members and six aircraft, with squadrons in Pierre, Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Custer, Spearfish, Philip, Aberdeen and Brookings. Every aircrew member receives extensive training and testing before being allowed to fly missions.
