Durfee State Prison receives award for support of National Guard and Reserve

Pierre, S.D. - The Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield has been recognized for their support of the National Guard and Reserves.

Warden Bob Dooley was presented with the Five Star Statement of Support Award May 31st from Paul Phalen of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).

A Five Star Employer award denotes the following:

  • A signed statement of support publicly demonstrating support for their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve;
  • A review of human resources policies to ensure compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act Law (USERRA);
  • Promoting of training for managers and supervisors to effectively manage their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve;
  • Adoption of polices and programs that are "Above and Beyond" what is required by the USERRA Law; and
  • Serving as an advocate for employee service in the National Guard and Reserve
    and helping to promote the mission of ESGR.

    MDSP has four full-time employees that serve in the National Guard.
