Inmates assisting with Spearfish Creek clean up project

Pierre, S.D. - State prison inmates are assisting with efforts to clean up portions of Spearfish Creek.

Thirteen minimum-security inmates from the Rapid City Minimum Unit are helping with clearing debris and cutting downed or dead tree limbs to prevent future flooding along a three mile stretch of the creek area in the city of Spearfish. The project is expected to take up to two weeks to complete.

State prison inmates performed more than 2-point-3 million hours of work during 2004, including 93-thousand hours of work on special projects for communities in South Dakota.
