Preliminary Autopsy Indicates Inmate Died of Heart Attack

(Pierre) - A preliminary autopsy shows a state prison inmate died of an apparent heart attack at the South Dakota State Penitentiary this past weekend.

Inmate Lloyd Grundmeyer, age 60, was found unresponsive in his cell at approximately 6:40 PM Saturday, July 19^th.

Penitentiary staff attempted to revive Grundmeyer until paramedics arrived. Grundmeyer was pronounced dead a short time later.

Grundmeyer was serving an 8-year, 4-month sentence and two additional concurrent sentences for 1^st Degree Rape out of the state of Oregon.
