Gov. Rounds recommends nearly $47 million for water, wastewater, and solid waste projects
PIERRE – The South Dakota Board of Water and Natural Resources approved nearly $47 million in grants or low-interest loans for water, wastewater and solid waste projects when the board met Thursday and Friday, January 6-7, in Pierre.
In making the recommendations, Gov. Mike Rounds said, “These water, wastewater, and solid waste projects improve services to residents while providing the capacity necessary for future growth. I realize some local legislators think that this is nothing more than evidence of uncontrolled government spending…I disagree. These projects are good for the environment and good for the state.”
The $46,921,564 total includes three grants, 11 loans, and amendments to a grant and loan approved earlier by the board. The funds were awarded to 14 project sponsors.
The total includes two Consolidated Water Facilities Construction Program grants totaling $50,000, seven Clean Water State Revolving Fund Program loans totaling $42,095,908, one Solid Waste Management Program grant and one grant/loan amendment totaling $131,300, and four Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Program loans totaling $4,644,356.
The Consolidated Water Facilities Construction Program provides grants and loans for water, wastewater, and watershed projects statewide. The Legislature appropriates Water and Environment Funds annually to the Consolidated program through the Governor’s Omnibus Water Funding Bill. Consolidated grants include:

The Solid Waste Management Program provides grants and loans for solid waste disposal, recycling, and waste tire projects.
