CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON SOME LAKE OAHE BOAT RAMPS
PIERRE - Seventeen Lake Oahe boat ramps are targeted for improved low water access throughout the summer as conditions warrant, according to Game, Fish and Parks officials. Construction has begun at some ramps, and officials expect construction to continue through the summer as water levels drop.
The following six boat ramps are currently affected by low water conditions. Ramp improvements are either under construction or scheduled to begin soon.
- Minneconjou Lakeside Use Area - A new low-water access ramp is scheduled for completion by Memorial Day weekend. This ramp is currently unusable.
- West Pollock Recreation Area - A new double-lane, low water access ramp is scheduled for completion by Memorial Day weekend. The access road and parking lots will also see improvements. The existing primary ramp is unusable.
- Bush's Landing Lakeside Use Area - An improved double-lane, low water ramp is expected to be complete by June 7. The existing ramp is currently usable. Users should expect no disruption in service.
- West Whitlock Recreation Area - A new, wider low water access ramp with a better slope is scheduled for completion by June 14. The existing low water ramp is currently usable.
- Chantier Creek Lakeside Use Area - A new low water ramp should be complete by mid-June. The existing ramp is currently unusable.
- Lighthouse Pointe Lakeside Use Area - This ramp is scheduled to be extended by mid-June. The ramp is currently unusable.
Other ramps that are all currently usable, but scheduled for improvements later this summer include those at the following locations: Indian Creek Recreation Area, Walth Bay, Shaw Creek, Swan Creek, East Whitlock, Sutton Bay, Cow Creek/Spring Creek, Little Bend, East Shore and West Shore.
Boaters are encouraged to check the boat ramp conditions report online at www.state.sd.us/gfp/DivisionWildlife/Boating/RampConditions.htm for updated information on conditions and construction.
