TRY STATE PARK CAMPING CABINS, LODGES FOR THE HOLIDAYS

PIERRE - Looking for a change of scenery this holiday season? Try the warmth and comfort of one of the many heated camping cabins found throughout South Dakota’s state parks. Three lodges located in state parks offer a winter get-away for larger groups, as well.

Camping cabins are available for reservation in 27 state parks. The heated, one-room cabins sleep up to four people and include electricity. Visit www.sdgfp.info/Parks for a complete list of parks with camping cabins and additional information. Guests can make reservations for camping cabins by contacting the individual park.

Three-bedroom lodges, each accommodating up to eight people, are found at Mina Recreation Area near Aberdeen and Shadehill Recreation Area near Lemmon. Lake Thompson Recreation Area near Lake Preston offers a larger five-bedroom lodge that accommodates up to 12 people. Contact each park directly for additional information on reservations and lodge accommodations.

South Dakota state parks offer year-round access to recreation opportunities, including winter activities like hiking, walking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing. The camping cabins and lodges located in state parks give visitors an additional opportunity to enjoy South Dakota state parks throughout the winter months.
