Hit the Trails During May for Capital Community Challenge

PIERRE, S.D. – Remember, it’s not too late to Hit the Trails! Individuals in the Pierre/Ft. Pierre area can still get involved in the Capitol Community Challenge during the month of May. The challenge leads up to the annual Capital Community Day event at the Capitol Complex on June 14. You may participate as an individual, but the challenge provides an excellent opportunity to pull together your friends, family and coworkers to form a team and head out on the 50+ miles of beautiful trails in the Pierre-Ft. Pierre communities.

Visit www.pierre.org for maps and complete information about the challenge or stop down at the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce and pick up the challenge guidelines and map of the area trails. Maps are also available along the trail at kiosks at Griffin Park, West Farm Island, and Steamboat Park.

The goal for the 2006 challenge is to encourage individuals of all ages to be physically active. The challenge provides an opportunity to increase awareness and usage of the trails winding through the beautiful Pierre-Ft. Pierre communities.

Every participant returning their completed forms to the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce between May 31 and June 5 will receive a Hit the Trails prize, compliments of Strides to a Healthier Pierre. Winners of the challenge will be announced at the Capital Community Celebration on June 14 and receive the Hit the Trails trophy.

If you have questions regarding the challenge, contact the Department of Health at 773-3737 for details.
