Try “healthy living” for Capital Community Celebration

PIERRE – Pierre/Ft. Pierre residents can take part in a healthy living event as part of Governor Mike Rounds’ Capital Community Celebration. Residents who log one week’s worth of healthy lifestyle behaviors will be eligible for a prize drawing from the Department of Health at Capital Community Celebration on June 11.

The goal of the event is to encourage people to make healthy changes in their lifestyles such as being physically active, eating at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables, getting enough sleep, and using a seat belt.

Postcards for checking off activities are available on the Department of Health web site at www.state.sd.us/doh. Participants who accomplish and mark off three of the listed activities each day during one week between now and the Capital Community Celebration can submit the card to the department to be entered into the prize drawing. Prizes will include pedometers, cook books, insulated lunch bags, food scales, trail atlases and dyna bands. Drop off boxes for the cards will be placed at Pierre and Ft. Pierre locations listed on the department web site.

Questions about the event can be directed to the department’s Office of Health Promotion at 773-3737.
