Student artwork selected for statewide Color Me Healthy Calendar

PIERRE - Artwork from 12 elementary school students will be featured in South Dakota's 2000-2001 Color Me Healthy calendar. A total of 194 students from 60 schools participated in this year's contest for the calendar.

The calendar is produced each year to promote good nutrition, regular physical activity, sun protection, tobacco use prevention, alcohol and other drug use prevention, HIV/AIDS awareness, and injury prevention. It is distributed to schools, day cares, and other child related facilities statewide for each school year.

The calendar contest is sponsored by the Department of Health and the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs. Other financial sponsors include the Department of Human Services, Head Start Collaboration Office, and the American Lung Association of South Dakota.

In addition to having their artwork featured in the calendar, each of the winners receives a $100 savings bond, a bicycle helmet, and other prizes.
