Jackpot-Winning Ticket Sold in South Dakota

South Dakota Lottery officials this morning confirmed that one of the two winning tickets for last night’s $101,800,000 million estimated Powerball jackpot was sold in South Dakota. The other winning ticket was sold in Indiana. The two winners will split the jackpot. 

The winning numbers for the Saturday, February 1, drawing were: 02, 11, 16, 21, 39, Powerball: 42, Powerplay: 5.

While there have been 92 $100,000 prize-winning Powerball tickets sold in South Dakota, Lottery director Clint Harris said this is the first time a jackpot-winning Powerball ticket has been sold in South Dakota since the state lottery began offering the game in April, 1992. 

“We’re thrilled to finally have sold a Powerball jackpot winner, but not nearly as thrilled as the winner is, I’m sure,” Harris said.

The jackpot winner has 180 days to claim the jackpot, and will have the option of receiving half of the $101.8 million jackpot ($50,900,000) in 30 payments as a 29-year annuity or taking a one-time cash payment of half of the $54,819,886.24 million ($27,409,943) cash jackpot. The winner will have 60 days to make that decision after the ticket is validated.

The ticket holder must present their ticket to the state lottery office in Pierre to be validated. Harris said there is a multiple-step verification process to determine that the ticket presented is the actual winning ticket. “It isn’t until we have completed the validation process that we will officially declare the winner,” he said.

Powerball is played in 23 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1:120,526,770.
