FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Air National Guard returns from Southwest Asia
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –Members of the 114th Fighter Wing, South Dakota Air National Guard, continue to return from combat duty in Southwest Asia. Twenty-five Airmen are scheduled to return to Sioux Falls via commercial flights on Saturday, Jan. 20.
The Air National Guard members departed Sioux Falls in October of 2006 to Balad Air Base, Iraq. While deployed, they served as part of the United States Air Force’s Air Expeditionary Force rotation plan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Eight Airmen from the South Dakota Air National Guard will remain deployed to Southwest Asia, in support of the Global War on Terrorism, and are scheduled to return in late February. An additional 18 Airmen remain deployed within the United States supporting various Air Force and National Guard missions including Operation Jump Start, supporting the Southwest Border Patrol along the U.S. – Mexico border.
The South Dakota Air National Guard will host a homecoming celebration for the unit members who have recently returned from duty in Southwest Asia on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Joe Foss Field.
