S.D. Guard unit to return from Active Duty
RAPID CITY – Sioux Falls’ Detachment 3, 665th Maintenance Company received orders yesterday that will send them home by mid-November or sooner.
The South Dakota National Guard unit was stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., and is currently finishing a month-long training exercise at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, Calif.
The detachment, which specializes in maintaining the Multiple Launch Rocket System, provided support to units at Fort Sill and is now supporting the 1st Battalion of the 77th Field Artillery at NTC.
The unit, mobilized Feb. 11, 2003, will have served nine months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Although no time line has been established, the 28-member unit will return to Fort Sill for administrative and medical out-processing before returning home.
