SD25 reconstruction to start next week

SCOTLAND, S.D. – Reconstruction of SD Highway 25 through Scotland is scheduled to begin Monday (April 14), weather permitting.

Traffic will be maintained on the highway through Scotland during this initial work, which will include setting traffic control devices, clearing trees, removing curb and gutter and fence, and stockpiling topsoil. A temporary detour around the bridge on the south end of town is also scheduled to begin construction that week. Plans call for the bridge to be replaced with a box culvert.

A general public kick-off meeting and weekly construction meetings will be held. Times and locations will be announced as they become available.

The final roadway will be two lanes of asphalt concrete with asphalt shoulders and an asphalt parking lane. In addition, new curb and gutter will be placed from Williams Street to the north end of town. Work is expected to be completed by December.

Spencer Quarries Inc. of Spencer, S.D., is the prime contractor for the $2.8 million project.
