Highway 46 Closed from Hwy 37 East 13 miles to Hwy 25
MITCHELL – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will be closing a 13 mile section of Highway 46. The closure will be from SD 37 to SD 25 and is scheduled for one week beginning May 2nd. Traffic will be detoured onto Hwy 50.
The road will be closed to reconstruct a weak portion of the highway. The existing surfacing will be removed and the weak section will be reconstructed. A temporary base and blotter surface will be provided after the repair work is completed and the highway will be reopened. Access to each residence and business adjacent to the reconstruction work will be provided.
After the weak portion of Highway 46 is reconstructed, resurfacing work will begin. This work will include milling the top one inch of the existing surfacing and replacing it with two 1.5 inch layers of new asphalt. During this work the road will be opened. Traffic may encounter flaggers and pilot cars to direct traffic through areas were work is being performed. The resurfacing work is scheduled for completion on June 24th.
