Public Meeting Scheduled for US 183 Project

WINNER – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will hold a public informational meeting on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the upcoming US 183 project. The meeting will be held at the Presho Chamber of Commerce building in Presho, located at 121 North Main Street. The Chamber building sits next to the Lyman County Herald.

The project is scheduled to begin at the end of March. It involves grading US 183 from the junction of I-90 south 15 miles in Lyman County. Crews will mill off the old roadway surface and totally reconstruct the underlying dirt subbase below. An Interim surface, consisting of a foot of base material followed by a prime and blotter seal,  will be placed on the newly graded dirtwork. A separate project will follow in 2006 to place the final surfacing on the project.

Work is expected to begin on the south end of the project near the Tripp/Lyman County line and proceed north towards I-90. The project is expected to continue through the beginning of October.

US 183 will be open to traffic at all times except when inclement weather makes the construction work zone impassable.  During inclement weather events, flaggers will be present to guide motorists to alternate routes. The SDDOT reminds travelers to drive slowly and carefully and obey all signs and flaggers. They should use alternate state highway routes whenever possible.
