Work Begins on North End of US83 Project Near Selby
SELBY, SD - Grading work began Monday, September 12 on the north end of the US83 project near Selby. The construction area is just south of the US12 and US 83 junction. The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) has closed the highway to through traffic for the duration of the construction.
Highway 83 traffic will be detoured east on US12, south on SD47 to Hoven and back west to US83 on SD20.
Southbound traffic heading to Akaska should access the Walworth County highway system immediately south of the US12/US83 Jct. Northbound traffic heading to Akaska should access the Potter County highway system four miles south of the Potter/Walworth County line. Signs are in place directing traffic to and from Akaska.
Foothills Contracting, Inc. from Webster, SD is the prime contractor on this project. Crews began moving dirt on the south end of the project working north in July. A second grading crew has joined the project to begin work on the north end. The completion date for the project is July 17, 2006.
