6th Avenue Project Enters Phase II

ABERDEENSD – Construction crews will begin phase II of the 6th Avenue construction project in Aberdeen on Monday, June 27, 2005. Engineers with the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) expect this phase to take three or four weeks to complete.

Crews will extend the current road closure from Washington St to State St. all the way to the west side of Penn St. In addition, the intersection of State St. and 6th Ave. will be closed periodically as follows:

The intersection wills be closed temporarily on Monday, June 27 to allow for the removal of the existing surfacing. Once the surfacing is removed, the underlying gravel will be bladed and the intersection shall be re-opened to North/South traffic.

  • On Tuesday, June 28, the intersection will be closed all day to allow for the installation of the new sanitary sewer system and manhole.
  • Crews will open the intersection on Wednesday, June 29, to north/south traffic.
  • Crews will close the intersection again on Thursday, June 30, for installation of the new water lines and hydrants.
  • The intersection will be open on Friday, June 31 to north/south traffic.
  • The intersection will close on Saturday, July 1 or Monday, July 4 while crews will install the new storm sewer mainline.

All closures are dependant on weather conditions. Once the storm sewer mainline is in place, the intersection will be closed temporarily or limited to one lane of traffic until crews begin paving. When open to traffic, the intersection will be narrowed to two lanes with barrels along the outside, and stop signs at the intersection.
