Interstate 29 Southbound Lanes Open to Traffic

Russell StreetĀ and Benson RoadĀ Interchanges to Open

(Sioux Falls) The South Dakota Department of Transportation announces that beginning Thursday, August 14, the I-29 southbound lanes from I-90 south will be open to traffic. Also opening to traffic on August 14 will be the I-90 eastbound to I-29 southbound ramp. Travelers going east on Interstate 29 wishing to travel south on I-29 will be able to do so at the I-90/I-29 interchange. Traffic will no longer be detoured on Highway 38.

Also, the Russell Street interchange will be opened to traffic. All movements from Russell Street to north and southbound Interstate 29 as well as the Interstate 29 off ramps for north and southbound traffic will be open.

The interchange at Benson Road will partially open on Thursday. Traffic going southbound on Interstate 29 will be allowed to exit at Benson Road. Also, traffic west of Interstate 29 on Benson Road will be allowed to access Interstate 29 from Benson Road. Interstate 29 northbound on and off-ramps will remain closed. Benson Road east of I-29 will also remain closed.

Maple Street from Career Place to Marion Road, including the Career Avenue and Maple Street intersection will re-open. Maple Street east of Interstate 29 will also open to traffic on Thursday. Following the opening, traffic will be able to access Maple Street from Russell Street.

Following the opening of the project to traffic, there may be lane closures throughout the length of the project. Lane closures are required to allow the Contractor enough space to complete miscellaneous shoulder work.
