Highway 385 Remains Closed to Traffic
RAPID CITY – The Department of Transportation would like to remind travelers that U.S. Highway 385 remains closed from one-quarter mile north of Galena Road by Wild Bill’s Campground to the Gilt Edge Road at the top of Strawberry Hill.
Traffic is being detoured to Brownsville Road during the closure. Travelers should use the designated detour route and not other routes around the project. Motorists using other routes are causing problems with traffic and dust control. If this continues, additional road closures and law enforcement patrols will be initiated.
The public is asked to abide by the road closure. The maximum fine for driving on a closed road is $200 and 60 days in jail. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office will be patrolling the project looking for potential offenders.
The highway was closed on August 12 and will remain closed until November 30.
