Next Phase of US Highway 81 Project to Begin
US Hwy 81 to Close from 6th Ave. South to Kemp Ave. & Re-open from Kemp Ave. to 6th St. East
WATERTOWN, S.D. – On Monday, July 27, 2009, South Dakota Department of Transportation officials plan to close US Hwy 81 at Watertown from 6th Ave. South to Kemp Ave. for phase 3 of the reconstruction project.
Phase 3 involves grading, storm sewer installation, paving, sidewalk and curb and gutter placement, ADA upgrades, lighting and new traffic signals. A detour route has been established along 6th St. East. The Phase 3 closure is expected to last through September.
Phase 2 from Kemp Ave. to 3rd Ave. North is tentatively scheduled to re-open on Thursday, July 30, 2009.
And phase 4 of the US Hwy 81 reconstruction project, the southwest quadrant of US Hwy 81 and the US Hwy 212 intersection is currently under way. Weather permitting, this phase should be completed about the same time as phase 3. Phase 4 is expected to have minimal impact on traffic.
T& R Contracting of Sioux Fall, SD is the prime contractor on the project.
