Kuchen: South Dakota’s Dessert
PIERRE, S.D. – In the year 2000, Governor Bill Janklow declared Kuchen to be the state dessert of South Dakota. Since then, Kuchen has made its way into the hearts and stomachs of many who visit the Mount Rushmore State, and the Eureka Kuchen Factory is benefiting from the desire for this tasty South Dakota treat.
“The main objectives of the Kuchen Factory are to perpetuate old German ethnic recipes and to make them available to everyone in the state as well as to those in other states,” said Maria Luz Alandy, Co-Owner/Manager, Eureka Kuchen Factory, LLC.
Now in its 7th year, this small town factory, employing six, has been producing authentic German desserts for residents from all of the lower 48 states. They are also actively involved in community events like the annual Schmeckfest of Eureka, held the third weekend of September.
“In addition to the festivals and online sales, we also open our doors to group tours,” continued Alandy. “We strive to make a quality product, using old-fashion baking procedures, and enjoy showing everyone how this is achieved.”
The Eureka Kuchen Factory is open year-round. For more information, or to schedule a tour of the factory, contact Maria Luz Alandy at 605-284-2838 or visit www.eurekakuchenfactory.freeservers.com. Their products are also available on www.MadeInSouthDakota.com.
