Nutting to add 30 jobs in Watertown
WATERTOWN, S.D. --- Department of Tourism and State Development Secretary Richard Benda announced today that Nutting, a division of Acco Material Handling Solutions, an FKI company, has agreed to lease a new 86,000 square-foot facility to be built by the Watertown Development Company in Pheasant Ridge Industrial Park in Watertown. The $4.6 million project is the result of a partnership between Nutting, the state of South Dakota, the city of Watertown and the Watertown Development Company.
“This is a prime example of how the state can partner with a community to retain 30 jobs and create 30 more,” Benda said. “This company has a long-standing history in South Dakota and we are pleased that we were able to keep them as corporate citizens.”
Nutting currently operates in a building located in the Lake Air Industrial Park. They will continue operating at that location until the new building is completed in the spring of 2008.
As a part of the new lease, Nutting will be expanding their Watertown operations as well. In addition to its existing 30 employees, Nutting will add 30 jobs. Nutting manufactures high quality material handling trailers and carts for use in a variety of industries and services a number of markets both domestically and abroad. They have operated in Watertown since 1984.
According to Daniel Carmody, President of Nutting, Acco Material Handling Solutions. “The growth of the Nutting Division during 2006 and 2007 has exceeded expectations and we are very excited about the future growth potential in the material handling marketplace. We are especially pleased to be able to provide our skilled Nutting employees with a state-of-the-art facility in Watertown.”
“This effort has been a cooperative success,” said Focus Watertown President Craig Atkins. “The city and state have ensured that we will not only retain 30 jobs for Watertown, we will also add 30 more employees and position the company for a long-term presence in our community. We are very pleased with the results.”
In addition to the non-motorized materials handling solutions offered by Nutting, Acco Material Handling Solutions companies manufacture monorail cranes and hoists, grabs, lifters and crane components. The Pennsylvania-based company has been in operation for more than 100 years.
Focus Watertown is a non-profit economic development organization funded by public and private investors with the mission of increasing job opportunity and the property tax base of Watertown. The associated Watertown Development Company is a non-profit organization established to own and operate buildings, lands and development areas for the economic benefit of Watertown.
