South Dakota Still the Pheasant Capital of the World
Yet again, South Dakota is being recognized for its extraordinary pheasant hunting, only this time it is on a national stage. Mike Hegedus from CNBC’s “On the Money” was joined by Gov. Mike Rounds to discuss the economics of pheasant hunting and to get a taste of how good pheasant hunting really is in South Dakota while hunting at the Dakota River Ranch near Aberdeen.
When Hegedus was asked why they chose to do the story in South Dakota he responded, “We heard a rumor that South Dakota had some of the best pheasant hunting in the country. Turns out the rumor wasn't true. It has THE best pheasant hunting in the country.”
Gov. Rounds joined Hegedus and his crew while they were shooting a feature story on the economic impact of pheasant hunting on South Dakota. Gov. Rounds saw it as a perfect opportunity to tell the nation about a pheasant population that is coming off of a 40-year high.
“South Dakota is known for many things, but the fall and winter months are when pheasant hunting takes center stage,” said Rounds. “South Dakota really is the premier place for world-class pheasant hunting, and it is important that we promote it as such.”
In addition to the governor, the VP of Pheasants Forever, Dave Nomsen, was in attendance as well as representatives from the Governor’s office of Tourism and State Development and guests of Dakota River Ranch.
CNBC will air the story Wednesday, Dec. 6 from 6-7 p.m. Media attention that promotes South Dakota and increases awareness is a valuable component of the 2010 Initiative.
