LEWIS AND CLARK DEDICATION TO TAKE PLACE NEAR CHAMBERLAIN
Earlier this summer, exhibits were installed at the Lewis and Clark Information Center near Chamberlain, marking the completion of the award-winning facility. On Tuesday, Aug. 7, a dedication ceremony will take place at the center. Special guests include an estimated 500 members of the National Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation.
In order to accommodate the large group, the Department of Tourism will host two dedication ceremonies – one at 11:10 a.m. and the second at 1:05 p.m. Dr. Gary Moulton, editor of "The Journals of the Lewis & Clark Expedition," will speak briefly at both events.
"The Lewis and Clark Information Center at Chamberlain is an impressive facility and a real asset to South Dakota’s Lewis and Clark Trail," said Patricia Van Gerpen, secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tourism. "We’re using this opportunity to show off this gem to a national audience."
The information center is located on Interstate 90 between exits 260 and 263.
The dedication is being held in conjunction with the National Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation’s annual meeting, Aug. 5-8, in Pierre. The meeting is open to members of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation only, but it’s easy to join. For
information about becoming a member of the foundation, contact the Pierre Convention and Tourism Bureau at 1-800-962-2034 or the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation at (406) 454-1234. www.lewisandclark.org.
Others organizing the annual meeting are the South Dakota Office of History and the South Dakota Department of Tourism.
