State Historical Society to Host Window Repair Workshop

PIERRE, S.D. – The State Historic Preservation Office of the South Dakota State Historical Society is sponsoring a hands-on wood window repair workshop May 14-16.

The workshop will take place at the historic Oahe Chapel north of Pierre. Participants will learn to repair historic wood windows while repairing the windows of the chapel.

The workshop will be instructed by nationally-known historic preservation consultant Bob Yapp of Preservation Resources Inc. in Hannibal, Mo.

During the three-day window workshop, Yapp will teach 16 people how to repair and maintain their own wood windows. Participants will work each day from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. CDT. Each participant must commit to working all day, each of the three days. At the end of the three-day workshop, all eight windows in the Oahe Chapel will be repaired and reinstalled.

The registration cost is $30, which includes on-site lunches and breaks. Registration is limited to 16 spots that will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested in attending are encouraged to sign up immediately to guarantee inclusion in the workshop.

April 9 is the deadline to register.
