FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 CONTACT: Jennifer Lambley, Communications Coordinator, 605-725-9200 Expansion, Upgrades in Store for Mobridge Regional Hospital PIERRE, S.D. - More space, additional services and increased safety are planned for the Mobridge Regional Hospital, due in part to state financial assistance. Gov. Mike Rounds has awarded Walworth County a $309,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to facilitate hospital upgrades. “This is really a great project for Mobridge and Walworth County,” the Governor said. “These upgrades will allow the hospital to modernize and better serve patients, both in terms of more space and increased services.” A new addition to the hospital will be built. Renovation of existing space, along with the new addition, will add more than 17,000 square feet to the hospital. As a result, many of the hospital’s departments will be enlarged. Creation of new exam rooms will allow expansion of clinic operations when the current Physical Therapy Department relocates to the new addition. The move will provide the department with enough space to incorporate additional services, such as cardiac rehabilitation. It also will allow the Radiology Department to offer Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services. The hospital restructuring project will eliminate one entrance and address safety concerns related to foot traffic and the drive-up pharmacy window. CDBG is a reimbursement program, and Walworth County will receive funds as work is completed. The program provides communities with financial resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Past grants have been used for improvements and construction of community buildings, medical centers, water systems, and sewer systems. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG Program, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development administers it. -30-
