South Dakota’s Great Places: BramblePark Zoo

PIERRE, S.D. – One of South Dakota’s Great Places is the Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown, South Dakota. The zoo is home to more than 800 mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians.

The Bramble Park Zoo is a place for adults and children to explore and learn about wildlife through feeding animals at the petting zoo, zookeeper talks, guided tours, and interactions with animals.

Visitors will see approximately 800 animals from 150 different species. There are a number of indoor and outdoor exhibits, many of which have been recently remodeled.

In 2010, the zoo opened a new addition, the Terry Redlin Environmental Center, which houses fish tanks with a variety of aquatic wildlife. The interactive displays and exhibits teach visitors about animals and plants that are specific to South Dakota’s geographic region.

One of the great events at the Bramble Park Zoo is the Watertown Community Foundation Youth Council Roots & Shoots Day held on April 30from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Bring a non-perishable food item to donate and receive free admission to the zoo and the event. Spring is a great time to visit, as the birds at the zoo are in full plume.

The zoo is open from 10 a.m-4 p.m. Beginning May 28, the zoo will be open from 9 a.m-8 p.m. for their summer hours. Admission is $6 for adults and children over 13, $4 for children 3-12 years, and children two and under are free.

Bramble Park Zoo is located at 800 10th Street Northwest, just off Highway 20 in Watertown, South Dakota. For more information about the zoo, visit www.brambleparkzoo.com or call 605-882-6269.
